Tablespread Terms of Service
Last Updated: October 11, 2026 • Effective Date: October 11, 2026
October 11, 2026 — changes to these Terms. Two changes, and your acceptance is being requested again for that reason. First, to what the Free plan’s daily allowance covers. The Free plan was described as one dinner a day. It is still two generations a day, and those two can now be Tonight’s dinner with two options, or two dinners you ask for: a dinner you describe yourself, which uses one generation on every plan. This adds to what the Free plan can do and takes nothing away. §8.1 sets out the exact wording, and now also says what a day and a calendar week are for the allowances. Second, §16.6 now states when the 30-day arbitration opt-out period opens: once, when you first accept these Terms, and again only when a later version materially changes §16. Because this version changes §16.6, accepting it opens a new 30-day opt-out period if you have not already opted out. Nothing in our liability terms or our Privacy Policy changed on this date; the Privacy Policy carries the same date only because the two are accepted together.
September 7, 2026 — changes to these Terms. Two material changes, both to plans and billing, and your acceptance is being requested again for that reason. First: the $9.99 plan is now called Premium and now carries a stated weekly allowance, set out in §8.1. The price is unchanged — $9.99 per month or $99.90 per year — and the plan is described by what it plans for you rather than by a promise of no limit: your week of dinners, your desserts, and your gatherings. The plan that was previously offered at this price without a stated allowance is no longer sold. Second, and this one reduces what the Plus plan includes: Desserts and Host a Gathering are now part of Premium only. Plus plans your week of dinners. If you hold Plus and want Desserts or Host a Gathering, you can move to Premium yourself in the Plan section of your Household settings, or you can cancel before this change applies to you, as described in §8.6. §8.1 now describes that self-service switching, including that moving to a higher-priced plan takes effect immediately and is billed on your next invoice, and that moving to a lower-priced plan takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. §8.1 also now states, for the first time, what happens when a paid Household uses its whole weekly allowance: it is not locked out — it keeps planning at the Free plan’s daily rate for the rest of that week, and its full allowance returns when the new week begins. §8.1 also now states that a request may return fewer recipes than a feature normally produces when the allowance left is smaller than the request. §8.6 now says that we may stop offering a plan and what happens if we withdraw one you hold, and §18.2 now records how we version these Terms. Nothing in your rights, our liability, our dispute-resolution terms, or our Privacy Policy changed on this date.
September 5, 2026 — changes to these Terms. These Terms have been updated in seven material respects, and your acceptance is being requested again for that reason: (a) BILLING — paid Subscriptions are now available to purchase on the web, so the billing, auto-renewal, and cancellation terms in §8 are live rather than prospective, and §8 now describes plan allowances in the unit the Service actually meters and how cancellation actually works; (b) A NEW PAID PRODUCT — new §8.9 introduces one-time purchases, and a Recipe Book is the first, at $2.99 for Households on the Free plan; (c) NEW OBLIGATIONS ON YOU — new §10.5 governs Recipe Books and asks you to confirm three things about what you put in one and not to remove the printed safety notice from a Book you pass on, §11 adds a matching prohibition, and §15 adds a new indemnity for claims arising from a Recipe Book you made, including a claim by someone you gave it to; (d) LIABILITY — new §14.4 states that where a state does not allow a limitation in §13 or §14, that limitation applies only as far as that state permits and is trimmed rather than struck; (e) SCOPE — the Service now includes the Tablespread Android application, and the definition of “Service” in §2 has been widened accordingly; (f) §9.3 and §17 have been corrected to describe the Household and account-deletion controls the Service actually provides, and §10.3 now permits the personal, non-commercial use a Recipe Book involves; and (g) §10.4 now records that our copyright agent is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. Our Privacy Policy was updated the same day; its data retention and deletion terms (§§6 and 7.2) changed materially. If you had previously opted out of arbitration under §16.6, that opt-out remains in effect. If you had not, accepting that version opened a further 30-day opt-out period, which has since closed; §16.6 now sets out when an opt-out period opens.
Plain-Language Summary
Before the legal detail, here is the short version in normal English. If anything here conflicts with the full Terms below, the full Terms control.
- What Tablespread is: a premium menu-planning app, available on the web and as an Android app. It helps you capture recipes, plan a week of meals, build a shopping list, manage a pantry, and share all of it with your household.
- The AI (“Sous Chef”): Tablespread uses AI to generate recipes and meal plans, read recipes from photos and links, build shopping lists, and estimate nutrition. You are talking to an AI, not a chef, doctor, or dietitian. No human reviews what the AI produces before you see it. AI can get things wrong.
- Allergies and diets — read this one: Tablespread can filter for allergens and dietary preferences, but it cannot guarantee any recipe, meal, or shopping list is safe for you or free of any allergen. It is a planning aid, not a safety device. You must always read product labels and verify ingredients yourself. If you or someone in your household has a food allergy or medical dietary need, you use this feature at your own risk.
- Nutrition numbers are estimates. Calories, protein, carbs, and fat are approximate, generated by AI, and are not precise enough to rely on for medical, clinical, or therapeutic diets.
- Not medical or health advice. Tablespread is not a doctor, dietitian, or nutritionist. Talk to a qualified professional for anything health-related.
- Subscriptions auto-renew. Paid plans are available on the web and renew automatically — monthly or annually — at the price you signed up at, until you cancel. You can cancel from Your household inside the app, or email us at support@sanctumtools.com. Either way you keep paid access through the end of the period you already paid for. Plans cannot be bought or upgraded inside the Android app; you can cancel there, or move to a lower-priced plan.
- What each plan does. Free is two generations a day — Tonight’s dinner with two options, or two dinners you ask for. Plus plans your week of dinners — fourteen generations a week, which is seven planned dinners. Premium plans your week of dinners and adds Desserts and Host a Gathering, which are Premium only. Every planned dinner is designed with two options for you to choose between, so one planned dinner uses two generations; a dinner you ask for uses one. If a paid Household uses up its weekly allowance it is not locked out — it keeps planning at the Free plan’s daily rate for the rest of that week, and the full allowance returns when the new week begins. §8.1 has the exact allowances.
- Your data: your recipes, pantry, and household data are yours. We store them with Google Firebase, process AI requests through Anthropic, and handle payments through Stripe. The Tablespread Privacy Policy has the detail.
- Deleting your account. You can delete your account and your household’s data yourself, from inside the app, and it happens right away — no waiting period, no email required. Two things survive: the record of which Terms you agreed to and when (that is what makes an agreement provable), and Stripe’s payment records, which are not ours to delete. Full detail at tablespread-app.web.app/delete-account/. Deleting is not the same as cancelling — cancelling keeps your account and your recipes until the paid period ends; deleting ends the subscription immediately and does not refund the rest of the period. Deleting is permanent and the app has no per-recipe download — the one way to take recipes out is a Recipe Book (§10.5), so if recipes matter to you, make one before you delete.
- Disputes: most disputes are resolved through binding individual arbitration, not court, and not as a class action. You can opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing us; a later version opens a new 30 days only if it changes these dispute terms.
Important — Please Read Carefully
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal contract between you (“you,” “User,” or the household member accepting them) and SanctumTools LLC (“SanctumTools,” “Tablespread,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Tablespread web application, website, or related services (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and the Tablespread Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, accepting an invitation to a Household, or accessing or using Tablespread, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, the Tablespread Privacy Policy (incorporated by reference), and all applicable laws and regulations. If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of a Household, you represent that you have authority to bind that Household and its members to the extent permitted by law.
2. Definitions
For clarity, the following defined terms are used throughout these Terms:
- “Service” means the Tablespread web application (a progressive web app), the Tablespread application for Android distributed through the Google Play Store, the Tablespread website, and all associated features, content, and functionality. Except where these Terms say otherwise, everything in them applies equally however you access the Service.
- “Privacy Policy” means the Tablespread Privacy Policy, which describes how SanctumTools collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects data in connection with Tablespread. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference. It is distinct from, and does not refer to, the separate SanctumTools wellness/mood-app privacy policy.
- “Sous Chef” or “AI Features” means the artificial-intelligence-powered features of the Service, including recipe generation, recipe parsing from photos/links/text, meal planning, shopping-list consolidation, nutrition estimation, and any allergen or dietary assistance powered by AI.
- “AI-Generated Content” means any recipe, meal plan, shopping list, ingredient, instruction, nutrition estimate, substitution, or other output produced by the AI Features.
- “User Content” means any content you create, upload, capture, paste, or enter into the Service, including recipe photos, recipe links, typed recipes, pantry items, notes, dislikes, dietary preferences, allergen entries, and household-member profiles.
- “Household” means the shared account unit under which an Owner and invited Members share menus, recipes, lists, and pantry data.
- “Owner” means the User who creates a Household and holds the subscription for it.
- “Member” means a User invited to and participating in a Household, each with their own login.
- “Subscription” means a paid plan (monthly or annual) purchased for a Household and providing access to paid features and a higher plan allowance than the Free plan. The paid plans currently offered are Plus and Premium; what each includes is set out in §8.1.
- “Generation” means one recipe designed for you by the AI Features. Plan allowances are measured in Generations (see §8.1).
- “Complimentary Access” means the access a Household has when we have not placed it on the Free plan and it holds no Subscription — for example, early testers, founding users, and Households created before paid plans existed. Complimentary Access carries the paid features at no charge. It is a courtesy, not a Subscription, is not purchased, and may be changed or ended on reasonable notice.
3. Description of Service
Tablespread is a menu-planning and household food-management tool. The Service helps you:
- Capture recipes by photo, screenshot, link (URL), or typed text, parsed into structured recipes;
- Generate recipes and weekly meal plans using the AI “Sous Chef”;
- Build and organize a consolidated, categorized shopping list;
- Maintain a recipe library and a soft pantry inventory (including barcode scan-to-populate);
- Estimate nutrition information for recipes;
- Apply allergen and dietary preference filtering;
- Share menus, lists, recipes, and pantry data within a Household.
Tablespread is a planning and organizational tool. It is NOT:
- A source of medical, nutritional, dietary, or health advice;
- A guarantee that any recipe, meal, ingredient, or shopping list is safe, accurate, allergen-free, or suitable for any person, diet, or medical condition;
- A food-safety, allergen-detection, or medical-compliance device;
- A substitute for reading product labels, verifying ingredients, or consulting a qualified professional;
- A grocery, food, or ingredient seller, or a guarantor of any third party’s products.
3.1 AI-Powered Features — Required Disclosure
Notice: this Service uses artificial intelligence.
Tablespread uses AI technology (including large language models and AI vision) to power the Sous Chef and related features. You acknowledge and agree that:
- The AI does not have culinary, nutritional, medical, or food-safety training or licensure;
- No qualified professional reviews AI-Generated Content before you receive it;
- AI responses are automated and generated in real time without human review;
- AI may produce “hallucinations” — output that appears correct but is fabricated, inaccurate, or incomplete, including wrong ingredients, wrong quantities, missing allergens, incorrect cooking instructions, unsafe food-handling steps, or inaccurate nutrition estimates;
- You are interacting with an AI system, not a human chef, dietitian, nutritionist, or physician.
4. Allergen and Dietary Filtering — Critical Disclaimer and Assumption of Risk
This Section is the most important in these Terms. Read it carefully.
4.1 What the Allergen and Dietary Features Do
Tablespread allows you to record food allergies (per Household member) and dietary preferences and goals (such as vegetarian, vegan, low-sodium, or heart-healthy), and attempts to filter, flag, or warn about recipes and ingredients accordingly. For recognized major allergens, the Service uses rule-based matching against a curated allergen dictionary and is designed to err toward warning when uncertain. For user-entered (“custom”) allergens and for dietary preferences, matching is best-effort and more limited.
4.2 No Guarantee of Safety
Tablespread does not, and cannot, guarantee that any recipe, generated meal, ingredient, substitution, shopping list, or product is free of any allergen or safe for you or any person. The allergen and dietary features are planning and informational aids only. They are not a food-safety device, an allergen-detection guarantee, or a substitute for your own verification. Among other limitations, the Service:
- cannot account for cross-contamination, “may contain,” or shared-facility risks, which are not knowable from a recipe;
- cannot know the actual ingredients, formulation, preparation, or labeling of the specific products you buy, which change over time and vary by brand, store, and region;
- relies in part on AI, which may miss, mislabel, or misidentify an allergen or ingredient;
- does not distinguish severity (e.g., intolerance versus anaphylaxis) and treats matters generally; and
- provides custom/free-text allergen matching only on a limited, name-matching, best-effort basis.
4.3 You Must Verify — Always Read Labels
You are solely responsible for verifying the safety and suitability of every ingredient, product, and meal before purchasing, preparing, serving, or consuming it. Always read the labels on the actual products you buy, confirm ingredients independently, and consult a qualified medical professional or allergist regarding any food allergy or medical dietary requirement. Never rely on Tablespread to keep you or anyone in your Household safe from an allergen or to satisfy a medically necessary diet.
4.4 Assumption of Risk
By using the allergen, dietary, recipe, or meal-planning features, you knowingly and voluntarily assume all risk arising from your use of or reliance on those features, including any allergic reaction, adverse health event, illness, injury, or dietary non-compliance. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree that SanctumTools is not responsible or liable for any such outcome, and you release SanctumTools from any claim arising from your reliance on the allergen or dietary features.
5. Nutrition Estimates — Disclaimer
Tablespread may display estimated nutrition information (such as calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat) for recipes and meals. These figures are approximate AI-generated estimates, not precise or verified values. They are not suitable for medical, clinical, therapeutic, diabetic, renal, weight-management, or any other diet requiring nutritional precision. Actual nutritional content depends on the specific ingredients, brands, quantities, substitutions, and preparation you use, which Tablespread cannot know. Do not rely on Tablespread’s nutrition estimates for any health-related decision. If you have a medical condition or follow a medically directed diet, consult your physician or a registered dietitian and rely on verified nutrition labels.
6. No Medical, Nutritional, or Professional Advice
Tablespread does not provide medical, nutritional, dietary, allergy, or other professional health advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing in the Service should be treated as such. The Service and all AI-Generated Content are for general meal-planning and informational purposes only.
- Always seek the advice of your physician, allergist, registered dietitian, or other qualified professional with any questions regarding a food allergy, intolerance, medical condition, or dietary requirement.
- Never disregard or delay seeking professional advice because of anything provided by the Service.
- Use of the Service does not create any doctor-patient, dietitian-client, or other professional relationship between you and SanctumTools, its personnel, or its AI systems.
7. AI-Generated Content Provided “As-Is”
All AI-Generated Content — including recipes, meal plans, ingredient lists, quantities, cooking instructions, substitutions, parsed recipes, and nutrition estimates — is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable. AI-Generated Content is not professional culinary, food-safety, nutritional, or medical advice.
You are solely responsible for reviewing all AI-Generated Content before relying on it, including verifying ingredients, quantities, measurements, cooking temperatures and times, and food-safety steps (for example, safe handling and cooking of meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood). You cook, prepare, and consume any recipe at your own risk. SanctumTools does not warrant that any recipe is accurate, safe, edible, healthy, or fit for any purpose.
The Service is designed to show you parsed and generated recipes for your confirmation before saving; you are responsible for that confirmation and for any errors you do not catch.
8. Subscriptions, Billing, Auto-Renewal, and Cancellation
8.1 Plan allowances
A Subscription is purchased for, and applies to, a Household. The weekly and daily plan allowances below are shared by everyone in the Household — a Household of four shares one allowance, it does not get one each.
Allowances are measured in Generations, as defined in §2. One Generation is one recipe designed for you. A dinner the Service plans for you — Tonight’s dinner, or a dinner in a planned week — is designed with two options for you to choose between, so one planned dinner uses two Generations. A dinner you ask for, by describing the dish yourself under “Have something in mind?”, is designed as one recipe and uses one Generation.
- Free — up to two (2) Generations per day. Those two can be Tonight’s dinner with two (2) options, or two (2) dinners you ask for. Every other feature available on the Free plan, such as a different recipe in place of one you were shown or a new dish made from your leftovers, uses one (1) Generation from the same two (2).
- Plus — $4.99 per month or $49.90 per year — up to fourteen (14) Generations per calendar week, which is seven planned dinners a week, each with two options. Plus plans dinners; Desserts and Host a Gathering are not included in Plus.
- Premium — $9.99 per month or $99.90 per year — up to twenty-two (22) Generations per calendar week. That allowance is set to the size of a full week of dinners together with one dessert request and one gathering in the same week; every request draws on the same twenty-two, including asking for a different recipe in place of one you were shown. Desserts and Host a Gathering are available on Premium only.
Allowances do not carry over, and they are counted per Household rather than per person. Generations used for other features — desserts, gatherings, dinners you ask for, and a different recipe in place of one you were shown — draw on the same allowance. For these allowances, a day begins at midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) — 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time during daylight saving time and 7:00 p.m. otherwise — and a calendar week begins at that moment on Monday, which is Sunday evening in U.S. time zones. When a limit is reached, the Service tells you when your allowance returns, in your own time zone.
A request may return fewer recipes than the feature normally produces. Generations are drawn against what is left of your Household’s allowance, so when the allowance remaining is smaller than the request, the Service fills as much of it as the remaining allowance covers rather than refusing the request outright.
If your Household uses its whole weekly allowance, you are not locked out for the rest of the week. A Household on Plus or Premium that has spent its weekly allowance keeps planning at the Free plan’s daily rate — two (2) Generations per day, usable in the same ways as on the Free plan — until the new week begins, when the full weekly allowance returns. When a request cannot be filled because a limit has been reached, the Service tells you at the time. While your Household is planning at that daily rate, a feature that would need more Generations than the daily rate allows may be unavailable until your weekly allowance returns.
Plus and Premium both unlock planning a full week in one pass, which the Free plan does not include. Desserts and Host a Gathering are included with Premium only — they are not part of the Free plan or the Plus plan. The paid plans also differ in the size of the weekly allowance: Premium’s is set so that a full week of dinners, a dessert request, and a gathering can all be planned in the same week. Each annual plan is priced at two months free compared with paying monthly. Prices are in U.S. dollars and exclude any applicable taxes.
Where purchases can be made, and plans changed. Subscriptions and one-time purchases (see §8.9) are sold only through the Tablespread web application, and payment is processed by Stripe. The Tablespread Android application does not offer purchases or plan upgrades. You can cancel a Subscription, or move to a lower-priced plan, from within that application. If we make Subscriptions purchasable in that application in the future, they will be sold through Google Play’s billing system, and Google’s purchase, cancellation, and refund terms will govern those transactions instead of §§8.4 and 8.5 to the extent they conflict.
Switching plans. You can change between Plus and Premium yourself, in the Plan section of your Household settings. Switching changes the Subscription you already hold; it does not create a second one, and a second checkout while a Subscription is live is still refused. Moving to a higher-priced plan takes effect immediately. You are not charged at that moment: the difference for the remainder of the current billing period is added to your next invoice, together with a credit for the unused part of the plan you left. Moving to a lower-priced plan takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for. You keep the plan you paid for until that date, and the new price applies from the next period; you may cancel a scheduled move at any time before it takes effect. Your billing interval — monthly or annual — is not changed by a switch. A Subscription that is already scheduled to end, or whose most recent payment has failed, cannot be switched in the Service; email support@sanctumtools.com and we will arrange it.
We may change prices, plans, and allowances prospectively. We will give notice of price changes as described in §8.6 and will not change the price of your current paid term mid-term. Some Households hold Complimentary Access (see §2), which is not a Subscription and is not governed by §§8.3–8.6.
8.2 Limits that apply to every plan
Separately from the Household allowance in §8.1, each individual account is subject to a backstop of sixty (60) Generations per account per day. This applies on every plan, including Premium and Households with Complimentary Access. Recipe generation also depends on third-party AI services and is subject to an overall daily capacity limit shared across all accounts; if that limit is reached, generation may be briefly unavailable regardless of plan.
8.3 Auto-Renewal (Negative Option)
Paid Subscriptions automatically renew. Unless you cancel before the end of the current billing period, your Subscription will automatically renew for another period of the same length (monthly or annual), and the payment method on file will be charged the then-current renewal price. By subscribing, you authorize SanctumTools, through our payment processor (Stripe), to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
Before you choose a plan, the plan card in the Service shows you the plan name, the price, the billing interval, that the Subscription renews automatically at that price until you cancel, that cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for and does not remove your recipes, where to cancel, and a link to these Terms. Our payment processor’s checkout page then shows you the amount and the renewal interval again before you confirm.
8.4 How to cancel
You can cancel your Subscription yourself, in the Service, on the web. Open Your household, and use Cancel subscription under your plan. We schedule the cancellation with our payment processor immediately and tell you when your paid access ends.
You may also cancel by emailing support@sanctumtools.com from the email address on your account. We treat a cancellation email as effective on the date you send it, not the date we process it, so a delay on our side can never cause a charge for a further period.
Effect of cancelling. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep paid access until then, you will not be charged for the following period, and you keep your account, your Household, and every recipe in your library — when the paid period ends, your Household simply returns to the Free plan’s allowance. Cancelling never removes your data.
You can cancel from within the Tablespread Android application as well as on the web, or by email. Moving to a higher-priced plan is not available in the Android application.
8.5 Refunds
Except as required by applicable law or as expressly stated, fees already paid are non-refundable, and cancelling a Subscription does not entitle you to a refund of fees for the current period. We may, in our discretion, provide refunds or credits in individual cases. Nothing in this Section limits any non-waivable refund or cancellation right you have under the law of your state of residence.
8.6 Price and Plan Changes
We may change Subscription prices or the contents of plans. For changes that increase the price of your Subscription or materially reduce what your plan includes, we will give you advance notice (by email and/or in the Service) before the change takes effect on a renewal, and you may cancel before the change applies if you do not agree. We may also stop offering a plan to new subscribers. Withdrawing a plan you already hold, or moving a feature from a plan you hold to a different plan, is a change of the kind described above, and the same advance notice and the same opportunity to cancel apply.
8.7 Free Tier and Fair Use
The free tier and any usage limits (including daily meal and generation limits and abuse caps) are subject to change. We may throttle, limit, or suspend AI Features for any account whose usage significantly exceeds normal personal-household use or that appears automated, bulk, or commercial.
8.8 Taxes
Prices may exclude applicable taxes. You are responsible for any taxes associated with your Subscription, which may be collected by us or our payment processor.
8.9 One-time purchases
Some features are sold as a single purchase rather than a Subscription. A Recipe Book costs $2.99 for Households on the Free plan, and is included at no charge for Households with a Subscription and for Households with Complimentary Access. A one-time purchase is not a subscription and does not renew. Paying for a Book entitles you to generate that Book — including generating it again later, with the same or different recipes — for as long as your account exists. A different Book is a separate purchase. Because a Book is built from your library at the moment you generate it, a Book you make again later may differ from the one you made before if the recipes in it have changed; we do not keep the earlier file, so save a copy of any Book you want to keep exactly as it was. One-time purchases are non-refundable except as required by law or as we choose in an individual case, and are processed on the web by Stripe. They are not available for purchase in the Android application.
9. Accounts, Eligibility, and Households
9.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to create an account or hold a Subscription. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
9.2 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. Each Household Member must use their own login; account credentials are not to be shared.
9.3 Households and Member Data
A Household is created by an Owner, who may invite Members. Members share menus, recipes, lists, pantry data, and household-member profiles (including dislikes, dietary preferences, and allergen entries) within that Household. You acknowledge that:
- information you enter into a shared Household (including another person’s dietary preferences or allergies) is visible to other Members of that Household;
- you must have authority and, where required, consent to enter another person’s information (including a Member’s or guest’s allergies) into the Service; and
- the Owner controls the Household and holds its Subscription, may invite Members, and may set each Member’s role and permissions. An Owner cannot currently remove another Member or transfer ownership of a Household. A Member leaves by deleting their own account from their own device; an Owner whose Household still has other Members cannot delete the Household until they are the only one left. If you need a Member removed and they will not or cannot do it themselves, email support@sanctumtools.com.
10. User Content and License
10.1 Your Content
As between you and SanctumTools, the User Content you provide belongs to you. You are responsible for your User Content and for ensuring you have the rights to provide it (for example, you must have the right to upload a recipe photo or paste a recipe from a third-party source for your personal household use).
10.2 License to Operate the Service
You grant SanctumTools a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, and display your User Content solely to operate, provide, secure, and improve the Service for you and your Household, including transmitting relevant content to our service providers (such as Anthropic for AI processing) as needed to deliver the AI Features. We may use aggregated and de-identified data to operate and improve the Service.
10.3 Recipes and Ownership of AI-Generated Content
Recipes can be captured from third-party sources, generated by the Sous Chef, or entered by you. You acknowledge that:
- recipe ingredient lists and basic instructions generally are not protected by copyright, but the original expression, photographs, and creative text in a third-party recipe may be; you are responsible for your use of recipes you import from others, and your license does not extend beyond personal, non-commercial use by you and your Household, which includes making a Recipe Book under §10.5;
- to the extent AI-Generated Content can be owned, SanctumTools does not claim ownership of the AI-generated recipes in your library and permits you to use them for your personal, non-commercial Household purposes;
- AI-Generated Content may not be unique to you and may be similar to content generated for other users; and
- you may not resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit AI-Generated Content or the Service’s output, except that you may make and give away Recipe Books for personal, non-commercial purposes as described in §10.5.
10.4 Copyright Complaints — DMCA Notice and Takedown
SanctumTools respects the intellectual-property rights of others and responds to notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”), 17 U.S.C. § 512. SanctumTools has designated an agent to receive notifications of claimed infringement with the United States Copyright Office (Directory registration DMCA-1079950). Notices must be sent to the designated agent below. If you believe that content stored or transmitted through the Service infringes a copyright you own or control, you may send a written notice to our designated agent at melanie@sanctumtools.com that includes:
- a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on its behalf;
- identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed;
- identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate it;
- your contact information (name, address, telephone number, and email address);
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
We may remove or disable access to allegedly infringing material, notify the user who provided it, and accept counter-notifications consistent with the DMCA. We may, in appropriate circumstances and in our discretion, terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.
10.5 Recipe Books
The Service can assemble recipes you select from your own library into a formatted book file (a “Recipe Book”) and deliver it to you. We generate it on request and do not keep the finished file; what we store is the list of recipes you chose and the name you gave it, so you can make it again.
You choose what goes in, and you are responsible for what you choose. Your library may hold recipes you captured from websites, books, cards, or other people. Recipes themselves — ingredients and method — generally are not protected by copyright, but the way a recipe is written can be: headnotes, descriptions, and distinctive instruction text belong to whoever wrote them. By making a Recipe Book you confirm that:
- it is for your own personal, non-commercial use, or a gift to someone you know;
- you will not sell it, offer it for sale, or distribute it publicly or in quantity — including publishing it for sale through any print-on-demand or retail service; and
- you have the right to include the recipes you selected, and you are responsible for that judgment. If a large share of your Book comes from a single author, book, or website, it is worth getting their permission first.
Attribution. Where we know where a recipe came from, we print that in the Book. We do it because it is right and because it helps a reader find the original — it is not a licence, and it does not by itself make any use lawful. For recipes captured before we began recording origin, the Book may say only that the recipe came from an outside source.
🔴 Every Recipe Book carries printed safety information, and you must not remove it. A Book is a fixed object: unlike the app, it cannot be corrected after it is printed, and the person you give it to has not agreed to these Terms and may never have used Tablespread. The printed notice — that recipes may be AI-generated, that nutrition figures are estimates, that allergen and dietary filtering is not a guarantee of safety, and that whoever cooks from it must check labels and ingredients themselves — is how that person is told. Do not remove, obscure, or edit it out of a Book you pass on.
Printing. If you send a Recipe Book to a printing or publishing service, that is between you and that service under its own terms, which will generally require you to confirm you hold the rights to what you upload. We are not a party to it, we do not send your Book to any such service, and we have no relationship with them.
What we do and do not do. We format and deliver a Book at your request. We do not publish, host, sell, or distribute it, and we do not make it available to anyone but you. Section 10.4 applies to recipe content stored in the Service.
11. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any law or regulation;
- Sell, publish for sale, or distribute in quantity any Recipe Book, or use the Book feature to reproduce a substantial part of any single cookbook, website, or author’s work;
- Infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any person (including uploading third-party recipe content you have no right to use);
- Upload malicious code, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other accounts/Households;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, data-mine, or use automated means to extract data from the Service, except as permitted by applicable law (including good-faith security research);
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose (including operating a food business, reselling recipes or lists, or providing meal-planning services to third parties) without our written permission;
- Attempt to manipulate, jailbreak, or circumvent the AI system’s safety guidelines or usage limits;
- Enter another person’s personal or health-adjacent information (such as allergies) without the authority or consent to do so;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure; or
- Use the Service in any manner that is fraudulent, harmful, or harassing.
12. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including:
- Google Firebase / Firestore and Google Sign-In (Google Cloud) — data storage and authentication;
- Anthropic, Inc. — AI processing for the Sous Chef and related AI Features;
- Stripe — payment processing for Subscriptions and one-time purchases made on the web;
- Google Play — if we make Subscriptions purchasable in the Android application in the future, Google Play’s billing system will process those purchases. It does not process any purchase today;
- Open Food Facts — barcode/product lookups for the pantry feature;
- Cloudflare — cookieless web analytics on our public marketing pages only, not within the application.
Tablespread does not use a third-party email marketing or transactional email provider. Any account or notice emails are sent through Google (Firebase Authentication / Google Workspace).
Your use of the Service involves transmitting relevant data to these providers as needed to deliver the Service, as described in the Tablespread Privacy Policy. These providers operate under their own terms and privacy policies. SanctumTools is not responsible for the acts, omissions, accuracy, availability, or data practices of third-party services, including the accuracy of any product, nutrition, or barcode data they supply or any third-party recipe site you import from. Your relationship with any grocery store, brand, or product manufacturer is solely between you and that third party.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, SanctumTools disclaims all warranties, including:
- Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement;
- Warranties that the Service or any AI-Generated Content will be accurate, complete, reliable, safe, allergen-free, nutritionally correct, edible, healthy, or fit for any purpose;
- Warranties that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure; and
- Warranties that any errors or defects will be corrected.
We do not warrant that any recipe, meal plan, shopping list, allergen flag, or nutrition estimate will meet your needs, be safe for you or your Household, or produce any particular result.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and except for liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (including liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud):
14.1 No Liability for Certain Outcomes
SanctumTools and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for any injury, illness, allergic reaction, adverse health event, property damage, emotional distress, or other harm arising from your use of or reliance on the Service or any AI-Generated Content, including any reliance on allergen filtering, dietary filtering, nutrition estimates, recipes, or food-safety information.
14.2 No Indirect Damages
In no event shall SanctumTools be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or use, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other theory, even if advised of the possibility.
14.3 Liability Cap
If, notwithstanding the above, SanctumTools is found liable, its total aggregate liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid SanctumTools for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) One Hundred Dollars ($100).
14.4 If Any of This Is Unenforceable
Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or damages, including damages for personal injury. In those states, the exclusions and limitations in §§13 and 14 apply only to the fullest extent that state’s law allows, and you may have rights those Sections cannot take away. If any limitation in §13 or §14 is held unenforceable, it shall be reformed and applied to the greatest extent permitted rather than struck, and every other limitation in those Sections remains in full force.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SanctumTools LLC and its officers, directors, employees, agents, affiliates, and licensors from and against third-party claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from: (a) your material breach of these Terms; (b) your violation of applicable law; (c) your violation of the rights of another person or entity (including intellectual-property rights in recipes or content you upload); (d) your User Content, including information you enter about another person without authority or consent; or (e) a Recipe Book you made, including any claim brought by a person you gave it to.
16. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration
16.1 Informal Resolution First
Before initiating arbitration, you agree to first contact us at melanie@sanctumtools.com and attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
16.2 Binding Arbitration
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that is not resolved informally shall be resolved through binding arbitration, not in court, subject to the opt-out and exceptions below.
16.3 Arbitration Procedure
- Arbitration will be conducted by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules.
- Arbitration will take place in Guilford County, North Carolina, or remotely via video conference at your election.
- Each party bears its own costs and attorneys’ fees unless the arbitrator awards them or the AAA Consumer Rules require otherwise.
- The arbitrator’s decision is final and binding.
16.4 Small-Claims Carve-Out
Either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court in the county of the consumer’s residence, provided the claim qualifies and is not consolidated with other claims.
16.5 Class-Action Waiver
Arbitration and claims will be conducted on an individual basis only, not as a class action or representative action. You waive any right to participate in a class action or class-wide arbitration against SanctumTools.
16.6 30-Day Opt-Out
You may opt out of the binding-arbitration and class-action-waiver provisions in §§16.2 and 16.5 by sending written notice to SanctumTools at melanie@sanctumtools.com within thirty (30) days of the date you first accept these Terms. The notice must include your name, the email address on your account, and a statement that you are opting out of arbitration. Opting out will not affect any other part of these Terms.
Accepting a later version of these Terms does not open a new opt-out period unless that version makes a material change to this §16. If it does, you may opt out of the change by the same written notice within thirty (30) days of the date you accept that version; if you do, the provisions of this §16 as they stood before that change continue to govern disputes between you and SanctumTools. A change to this §16 never applies to a dispute that you or SanctumTools had already raised, by notice under §16.1, in arbitration, or in court, before the version making the change took effect. If you have opted out under this §16.6, your opt-out remains in effect under every later version of these Terms.
16.7 Exceptions
Either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court for intellectual-property infringement, unauthorized access to the Service, or violations requiring immediate relief.
16.8 Severability of This Arbitration Agreement
If the class-action waiver in §16.5 is found to be unenforceable or invalid as to a particular claim or request for relief, then that claim or request for relief — and only that claim or request — shall be severed from arbitration and proceed in a court of competent jurisdiction, rather than on a class-wide or representative basis in arbitration; the parties do not agree to class-wide arbitration. Except as provided in the preceding sentence, if any other provision of this §16 is found unenforceable, that provision shall be severed and the remainder of this §16 shall remain in full force and effect.
17. Termination
17.1 By You
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Your account inside the Service, or by emailing us at support@sanctumtools.com from the address on your account. Deletion removes your data from our live systems immediately — it is not a request we queue — and it cannot be undone. What is deleted, what survives, and what deletion means for a shared Household are described in full at tablespread-app.web.app/delete-account/ and in §§6 and 7.2 of the Privacy Policy. There is no per-recipe download, and deleting is permanent. The one way to take your recipes out of Tablespread is to make a Recipe Book (§10.5) before you delete — a book you have already generated is a file on your own device and is unaffected by deletion.
🔴 Deleting is not the same as cancelling, and the difference costs money. Cancelling under §8.4 keeps your account and your recipes and leaves your paid access running until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting ends the Subscription at once and forfeits the remainder of the paid period; it is not refunded. If you want to stop paying but keep your library until the period ends, cancel — do not delete. If a Subscription cannot be cancelled at the moment you delete, nothing is deleted and we tell you so.
17.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access for: material violation of these Terms; fraudulent, abusive, or illegal conduct; non-payment; prolonged inactivity following advance notice; or discontinuation of the Service. Except for fraud, abuse, illegal conduct, or non-payment, we will provide reasonable advance notice.
17.3 Effect of Termination
On termination, your right to access the Service ceases. We will handle your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law. If we terminate a paid Subscription without cause and not for your breach, we will refund any prepaid, unused portion on a pro-rata basis where required by law or as a matter of fairness. Provisions that by their nature survive (including §§4–7, 9.3, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18) remain in effect.
18. General Provisions
18.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Nothing in these Terms deprives consumers of mandatory protections available under the laws of their state of residence.
18.2 Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms with a new “Last Updated” date and, for material changes, by email and/or in-Service notice. Every change to these Terms is published under a version identifier, which is the “Last Updated” date shown at the top of this document, and each version identifier refers to one text only. For non-material changes, continued use after posting constitutes acceptance. For material changes to dispute resolution, liability, billing, or how we handle your data, we will seek your affirmative consent or provide a clear opportunity to decline by cancelling before the change applies to you. Where we seek your affirmative consent, we record which version you accepted and when; that record is described in our Privacy Policy and survives deletion of your account.
18.3 Severability
If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
18.4 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and SanctumTools regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements on this subject.
18.5 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.
18.6 Assignment
You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign them to any successor or affiliate.
18.7 Force Majeure
We are not liable for failures or delays due to causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, labor disputes, third-party service outages, or internet/telecommunications failures.
